Traditional Skills in dlr - a programme of events

This autumn we present a programme of events and activities with various opportunities to engage with and participate in traditional skills with roots in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown:

  1. "Show and Tell" stands at the Dublin Maker event in Leopardstown, Aug 30/31 - Dublin Maker is a family friendly showcase of invention and creativity, and a celebration of the maker movement. Our stands will enable attendees to engage with exciting contemporary makers, Alison Burn, Aideen Burn and Conor O'Brien, who are taking traditional skills connected to dlr - stained glass, knitting/sewing and pressed flower arrangements.

  2. Sewing workshops (3 adult, 3 teen) - Barbara Connolly from Green Thread will lead sewing machine workshops as part of the "Dressing Dublin - Made in Blackrock" programme celebrating the local 20th century garment industry.

  3. Drystone wall building workshop - linking in with the long legacy of stone-cutting in the Dublin Mountains and an ongoing major restoration of a historic garden feature wall in Marlay Park, the project stonemason will lead a taster drystone workshop.

  4. dlr's stained glass making legacy - local historian, Peadar Curran will give a talk on the connections between Evie Hone and Marlay, where she located her workshop and created her most significant stained glass work.

  5. TBG+S Book Fair - Grace Wilentz and Jane Cummins will run a poetry/cyanotype photography workshop, continuing the collaboration arising from the 2023 CI funded A True Record form about Marlay House.

Please note that the details of events listed above are provided by the relevant Local Authorities.
