Upon Landing – Creating a Neuro-Affirming Festival Experience
This inclusion and wellbeing project investigates a better understanding of access and welcome for neurodivergent audiences, artists, volunteers and organisers at County Wexford’s festivals.
Focusing on festivals in the Gorey/Kilmuckridge Municipal District as initial case studies, the project will consider pre-visit materials, sensory landscapes, adaptation toolkits and staff training, as well as moments of activation and reflection.
The voices of neurodiverse communities will be central to the process and will shape the overall direction on the project. These viewpoints will be gathered via creative workshops and consultations with neurodiverse individuals and carers in the community. Using creative methods that encourage ease of use and understanding, findings and recommendations will be distributed across the county, foregrounding a model for more inclusive neurodivergent access at our local festivals.
This project is one of Wexford County Council’s Culture Team projects for 2025. A collaboration between Gorey/Kilmuckridge Municipal District and the Access Office, it encourages cross-departmental working through community focused project.
