Weaving Workshops for All
Weaving Workshops for All is a community project led by clients of Headway, a national organisation supporting people living with Acquired Brain Injury (ABI). Building on the success of previous creative projects, this initiative empowers a group of Headway clients - many of whom have found renewed purpose through weaving - to share their skills and stories with the wider community.
Running from September to early November 2025, the project will see these individuals co-design and deliver a series of inclusive weaving workshops in Ballincollig. With support from artist Lucy Hyland and Headway staff, participants will guide small groups through the basics of weaving, offering a hands-on introduction to this calming and expressive art form. Each session will be carefully planned to accommodate the needs of both the facilitators and attendees, creating a welcoming space for creativity, conversation, and connection.
The workshops are more than just craft sessions - they’re a platform for storytelling, skill-sharing, and building confidence. For the Headway group, many of whom have faced significant life changes following their injuries, weaving has become a powerful way to communicate, connect, and reclaim a sense of identity. Now, they’re inviting others to join them in discovering the joy and wellbeing benefits of this accessible art form.
The project will culminate in a local display of the woven pieces created during the workshops, celebrating creativity and resilience.
