This traditional song and singing project will explore folklore from the local area of Taghmon with a group of older people from the Taghmon Day centre. Facilitated by traditional singer and folklorist Rachel Ui Fhaolain, the group will develop a repertoire of Wexford songs and explore creating new songs in the traditional style, using Rachel’s songbook ‘In the Singing of Songs’ as a major resource. The project will culminate with a special community performance event, bringing the outcomes of the project to a wider audience. The project participants will also be encouraged to bring their new repertoire of songs forward to Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann singing events in Wexford in August 2024 and 2025.
