Young Playwrights Mayo
Young Playwrights Mayo is a dynamic creative writing and theatre programme that empowers young writers across Mayo to discover and develop their storytelling voice through playwriting and performance. Taking place in Autumn 2025 at the Linenhall Arts Centre, the programme offers rare access to high-quality mentorship and professional theatre experience—opportunities not often available outside urban areas.
Over the course of ten sessions, participants aged 16–25 will explore the craft of playwriting through seven engaging workshops focused on character development, dialogue, scene work, improvisation, and stagecraft. They’ll also attend live theatre performances, gaining insight into the professional world of touring theatre.
The programme culminates in a three-day rehearsal process where young writers collaborate with professional directors and actors to bring their scripts to life. Their work is then showcased on the Linenhall stage in a series of rehearsed readings, performed in front of a live audience of peers, family, and the wider community.
Young Playwrights Mayo fosters creativity, confidence, and connection. It supports emerging talent, builds lasting relationships between young people and the arts, and places creativity at the heart of community life. Through this unique experience, participants gain not only new skills but also the joy of seeing their words come alive on stage.
