Bicentenary Celebration Event for Summerhill North and Ballyhooley Road

Summerhill North Resident’s Association (SNRA) is thrilled to celebrate the bicentenary of the 1825 charter that established the turnpike road along Summerhill North and Ballyhooley Road. Join us for a weekend of events in August/September 2025, featuring captivating music and spoken word performances by local talents Conal Creedon, Roger Gregg, and Charlie Ruxton. These performances will echo the visual imagery in the surrounding historical photograph exhibition at St Lukes Church, while also taking inspiration from the poetry of local poet Gerry Murphy. Gerry's poetry, which reflects significant events in the area such as US President Kennedy's visit in 1963, will add depth and personal history to the celebration.

Additionally, local author Conal Creedon will share his in-depth knowledge of the area through readings from his works, including "Passion Play" and "The Burning of Cork," along with anecdotes and observations from growing up in the local area. These performances aim to enrich and complement the historic photograph exhibition, fostering a greater sense of community and place. The goal is to deepen community knowledge and animate the rich and complex story of this historic area since its foundation in 1825.
