To celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge, Offaly Libraries are promoting the Irish language through a variety of events from March 1st - 17th. 

On Saturday 8th March, Birr Library will become a Pop-Up Gaeltacht with Scéal, Lego as Gaeilge, Ciorcal Cómhra and Ceol available on the day. All are welcome to visit and enjoy some comhrá agus cupán tae.

Tullamore Library will host an Irish language quiz on Tuesday 11th March. The event is in partnership with Offaly County Council’s Irish Language Officer and promises to be a great day.

Storytime sessions and St. Patrick’s Day crafts will be on offer in libraries countywide while Irish words and phrases will be displayed in all branches encouraging everyone to use the “cúpla focail”. 

Primary & Secondary school students countywide will be invited to participate in Irish quizzes with special prizes up for grabs. 

An information booklet outlining all Irish language supports available in Offaly Libraries has also been published – pick up a free copy in your local branch.
