Intergenerational Willow Weaving Project – Drumshanbo Tidy Towns
This creative community project invites participants from ages 8 and up to explore the traditional craft of willow weaving in a relaxed and inclusive setting. It offers a playful and imaginative space for children, a calming and meditative experience for adults, and a welcoming environment for those who may be new to the area or to English.
Led by Helena Golden, a socially engaged creative practitioner with a passion for sharing traditional skills, the workshops will introduce participants to the art of working with natural materials. Helena’s approach blends hands-on learning with storytelling and connection, making the sessions accessible and enjoyable for all ages and abilities.
The project encourages intergenerational exchange, creativity, and sustainability, using locally grown willow and simple techniques to create functional and beautiful craft pieces. It supports wellbeing, skill-building, and community spirit—offering a meaningful way to connect through heritage and nature.
