Cork Biodiversity Hub: A Community Mural Project
The Cork Biodiversity Hub, newly established at the historic Powder Mills Heritage Centre in Ballincollig, is set to become a vibrant space where nature, creativity, and community come together. As part theour vision for this unique space, a large-scale ceramic mosaic mural will be created at the Hub’s entrance - a collaborative artwork that will celebrate biodiversity and inspire conservation.
Led by community artist Julie Forrester, the project will be supported by a dedicated team including Mabel Hernandez, Eithne Lynch, and Maria Young, whose combined expertise will guide both the artistic process and community engagement. Together, they will work with local groups to co-create a mural that reflects the richness of our natural environment and the power of collective creativity.
The mural will serve as a lasting visual tribute to Cork’s biodiversity. It will also transform the Cork Biodiversity Hub into a more welcoming and inspiring destination for environmental education and creative exploration. The project will promote well-being, inclusion, and empowerment by bringing people from diverse backgrounds together in a shared creative experience. Participants will have the opportunity to tell their own stories through art, fostering a sense of belonging and connection to place. The mural will not only enhance the visitor experience but also reinforce the Hub’s role as a centre for environmental learning and creative ambition.
