Woodwork and Horticulture with the Irish Wheelchair Association

This initiative engages young adult school leavers in a joint woodwork project to create flower beds, vegetable planters, flower pots, and bird feeders using reclaimed wood. The final products will enhance an independent living communal green area, benefiting both younger and older members of all Irish Wheelchair Association services.

🔹 Intergenerational Impact – Young participants will design and build the garden elements, while older members will enjoy, maintain, and nurture the space.
🔹 Sustainability Focus – Recycling and upcycling wood promotes eco-friendly practices, reducing waste and supporting climate-conscious initiatives.
🔹 Community Wellbeing – A vibrant green space will provide a sensory and holistic experience, encouraging birdwatching, composting, and the use of natural fertilizers to protect wildlife.
🔹 Social Inclusion – The project fosters connections and community-building, with plans to host garden tea parties and create an accessible outdoor space for all to enjoy.
🔹 Upskilling & Employment Potential – Participants will develop woodwork and horticulture skills, which could open doors to local employment opportunities.

By combining creativity, sustainability, and community engagement, this project transforms a bland green area into a thriving, inclusive space that nurtures nature, wellbeing, and social connections.
