Creative Arts for Well-Being

The aim of the workshops is to share benefits of arts engagement that Lisa Callaghan, another EIP
service user, found during her own recovery from psychosis including an increase in self-confidence, mood and wellbeing. The group is currently made up of adult participants of varying ages who meet every Tuesday afternoon in a HSE office in Sligo to engage in creative arts activities facilitated and led by Lisa who is the Arts Facilitator from ‘Expressive Minds’. The focus of the activities is on process-based arts activities which promote relaxing and therapeutic benefits while allowing the participants to create their own individual pieces of work. To date they have engaged in papier mâché sculpture, painting, clay sculpture and printmaking activities. Some of the participants have remarked that the activities were ‘relaxing’ and ‘therapeutic’, while one noted that “it is a good way to keep the mind occupied.
