Drawn to the Beat
Drawn to the Beat is an animation project working with young people in Cranmore to learn traditional and stop motion animation techniques with an outcome to create a 3 minute music video. Eight engagement sessions over a period of 16 weeks will be facilitated by artist Orla McHardy in Cranmore Community Coop. Orla will work with the teenage group self-named ‘The Wednesday Thing’ and their Community Development Workers, introducing them to the fundamentals of animation, exploring various materials and techniques and providing them with the skills to continue making animated work after the programme if they so wish. The sessions will be collaborative in nature, the group will be asked to work with the goal of creating a music video which will be screened publicly during Spilt Milk Festival 2026, within that the group will be empowered to choose an artist/band with whom to make a video for and decide their own approach(s) to making the video. The completed video will be screened at a launch event in October for participants, family and the Cranmore community and then later as a looped installation during Spilt Milk Festival.
‘Drawn to the Beat’ will bring art and creative experiences to underrepresented young people in an area of social disadvantage in Sligo town ,and provide a platform for young people in the Cranmore and east Sligo town area to spark their imagination and apply their creativity.
