BANAGHER BRONTË LITERARY MISCELLANY

For ten years or so Charlotte Brontë’s birthday in mid-April has been celebrated in Banagher. Since its inception in 2023 the Banagher Brontë Group have organised major events for the day.

To mark celebrations in 2026, special events will take place on Saturday 18th April in Crank House, Banagher, starting at 3 p.m. The opening performance will be a literary miscellany written and performed by the wider community, including school children and members and friends of the Banagher Brontë Group. The writings will be inspired by the works of the Brontë and their strong association with Banagher.

To facilitate these writings three creative writing sessions facilitated by Eileen Casey, accomplished poet and Francis Browner, published novelist have been organised. One session will be dedicated to children from the upper classes in the local primary school which will include a field trip to Charlotte’s Way and St. Paul’s Church.

These readings will be followed by the world premiere of The Brontës: Love and Honour, in Crank House, Banagher, a magnificent suite of ten songs set to music by Michael and Christine O’Dowd. This is a sublime suite of music with original lyrics and accompaniment.

A richly illustrated programme with all the lyrics of the ten songs will be published.

Please note that the details of events listed above are provided by the relevant Local Authorities.
