Feathered Between the Cracks
Feathered Between The Cracks is a collaboration between Banagher Tidy Towns and Offaly visual artist, Rosemarie Langtry. This partnership will explore the artistic process using different mediums including clay, paint, collage and pieces of nature using Swift birds as a theme.
While the main focus will be on exploring and enjoying art creativity, a sub purpose is to discover whether the artistic process will envision a follow-on project that raises better awareness of these birds in the locality and illicit a community call to action to help conserve them.
Swifts are amazing and vulnerable. Every year they visit Ireland from southern Africa to breed in our urban environment- a 14,000 mile round trip, all while weighing the size of a large egg! Swifts are a red listed bird of conservation concern. That means that, during our watch, they require human intervention to survive!
Rosemarie will gently guide 5th class pupils from St. Rynaghs National school in creating swift art pieces. Following those art sessions Banagher library will host a drop-in intergenerational art session to ensure people of all ages can participate. The school and community art work will be launched together in the library and exhibited for all to enjoy.
A vision wall will capture participants reflections on the entire process and may provide a focus for future initiatives connecting people with conservation through art.
