Growing Creative Communities

Growing Creative Communities is a participatory environmental arts project that brings together adults from the Brothers of Charity Community Access Programme in a shared space of creativity, sustainability and wellbeing. Led by Cork Community Art Link in partnership with Cork Foyer, the Health Action Zone (HSE) and local community organisations, the project takes place in the Cork Foyer community garden in Blackpool.

Over 10 weeks, participants will take part in facilitated creative workshops that combine visual art, sculpture and hands‑on growing. Working collaboratively, they will design and build a large‑scale sculptural artwork using natural and recycled materials, while also planting, nurturing and harvesting flowers, plants and produce in the garden. The project is rooted in circular economy principles and inclusive, accessible creative practice.

Participants will build confidence through making and collaboration, learn new creative and horticultural skills, and share their experiences with the wider community. The project will conclude with a shared celebratory meal in the garden, using produce grown during the programme, reinforcing themes of care, connection and community.

The completed sculpture will be unveiled at the Blackpool Block Party in August 2026 before becoming a permanent feature of the Cork Foyer garden. Growing Creative Communities demonstrates how creativity supports wellbeing, sustainability and inclusion in a shared community garden in Cork City.
