This project will deliver a 6-week community-based textile programme for children aged 5-11 years, facilitated by textile artist Brigid Teehan. Each weekly session will introduce children to accessible textile techniques including but not limited to fabric collage, hand-stitching, simple embroidery and creative construction.
Children will design and create their own unique textile characters using upcycled, recycled and donated materials such as fabric offcuts and old clothing. The programme will be process led, prioritising imagination, experimentation and creative decision-making rather than technical perfection.
The project will be inclusive and adaptable, ensuring children of different ages and abilities can participate meaningfully. Textile making offers a tactile, hands-on creative process that enables sensory exploration and imaginative engagement with the arts.
While the programme will be open to all families in the community, it will be promoted primarily through Family Support and Social Prescribing networks to encourage participation by children who may experience barriers to accessing creative activities in the community.
There should be a parent/guardian with the child
