Living in Limbo - The Reality of Life in Cork's Direct Provision Centres
‘Living in Limbo’ – The Reality of Life in Cork’s Direct Provision Centres is a participatory photography project led by Nasc, the Migrant and Refugee Rights Centre, working with International Protection applicants living across Cork City.
Through an introductory workshop with a professional photographer, participants will develop skills in mobile photography before documenting their daily lives over the course of a week. Using photo journaling as a creative and accessible form of expression, the project will support participants to share their personal experiences, perspectives and stories in their own words and images.
The programme is designed to foster connection, confidence and wellbeing, while creating a supportive space for participants who may feel isolated or marginalised. By enabling individuals to represent their lived realities, the project places participants at the centre of the storytelling process.
The project will culminate in a public exhibition, inviting audiences to engage with the work and gain a deeper understanding of life in Direct Provision. By encouraging empathy and dialogue, this initiative aims to challenge perceptions, strengthen community connections, and contribute to Cork’s identity as a welcoming and inclusive city.
