Ageing Artfully: Creativity for a Healthier Life
'Ageing Artfully: Creativity for a Healthier Life' is a multidisciplinary project celebrating the intersection of ageing, arts, health, and wellbeing for older people in Galway City. A collaboration between Galway City Council Creative Communities, Healthy Galway City, the Local Community Safety Partnership, and the Age Friendly Programme, it enhances existing initiatives including Bealtaine 2026, Positive Ageing Week 2026, and the Galway Together Age Friendly Expo.
The project enriches these programmes with high‑quality creative experiences across live music, dance, photography, and film, reaching diverse older adults citywide.
The Bealtaine 2026 programme focuses on older people in communal and nursing home settings.
The Age Friendly Programme partners with the Eye Cinema and Platinum Picture Show to deliver screenings celebrating ageing and the arts, providing an accessible cultural outlet.
Positive Ageing Week (Sept/Oct) continues to feature the multi‑agency 'Local Heroes' photo exhibition, showcasing inspiring older adults. Supported by the Creative Communities Grant 2026, the initiative includes live music at the exhibition launch and a bus shelter campaign to widen audience reach.
The Galway Together Expo takes place in October 2026, offering information, services, and resources. It incorporates a 'Social Steps' Dance showcase, linking older adults with locally available dance workshops.
