Discussing Crafts for non crafty people
Umbrella Le Chéile presents a two-part project designed to demystify the arts and empower creative entrepreneurs.
Part One is an interactive art discussion workshop for non-artists. Delivered by three of our members, this session breaks down how to appreciate and discuss visual art in plain language, removing the intimidation often felt in gallery settings. Participants will learn what to look for, key talking points, and gain confidence in engaging with artwork—all explained directly by the artists themselves. The workshop takes place in a traditional gallery setting at the Portershed, where attendees can experience a genuine gallery atmosphere while viewing a curated sample of works from our collective creative platform.
Part Two is a practical workshop focused on launching an artisan craft business. Our members provide a step-by-step guide covering essential topics: registering as a sole trader, managing accounts and finances, leveraging marketing and social media, and designing attractive displays to captivate customers. Each attendee will be paired with a dedicated Umbrella Le Chéile mentor, who will guide them through the process and integrate them into our collective creative platform. A follow-up session will then address common challenges and celebrate milestones, ensuring sustained support and shared success.
Together, these workshops bridge the gap between artistic appreciation and professional craft practice, fostering a vibrant, inclusive creative community.
