Beyond the Blackwater
This project is titled ‘Beyond the Blackwater’. It is a place-based ceramics and creative writing project designed for members of the West Waterford community who are experiencing mental health challenges. The project will run over a total of 14 weeks, beginning and ending with workshops led by poet and writer Lani O’Hanlon, and 12 weeks of ceramics facilitated by Adele Stanley and with elements of photography too.
The project is deeply place-based, drawing inspiration from the landscapes, culture, and communities along the Blackwater River. By connecting participants to both the natural environment and to each other, the project aims to foster wellbeing, resilience, and social connection, while nurturing participants’ confidence and creative skills. The combination of writing, ceramics and photography offers a unique opportunity to explore storytelling in multiple forms, allowing participants to leave the project with tangible artworks and written pieces that reflect their journey. ‘Beyond the Blackwater’ is not only a creative experience but also a space for reflection, connection, and growth.
