69% of all journeys in Waterford City are made using cars while only 4% of journeys are made by bus. Transport accounts for 19% of Ireland’s emissions one of the largest sources of CO2. Each bus can remove the need for 16 cars travelling into the city, reducing traffic and CO2 emissions. 

Poetry on the Move is a project that will turn Waterford’s buses into poetry venues for one night only, Culture Night. Local poets will perform on the buses and people coming into town for Culture Night will enjoy an artistic performance on their journey into Culture Night. Poetry on the Move also brings the arts to passengers using the bus who may not have attended Culture Night before. 

Poetry on the Move will tie in with European Car Free Day, September 19th to promote the bus and sustainable transport.

The WCCC Climate Team, in partnership with Bus Eireann will do a large amount of promotion in advance of this event, asking people who have not used the bus in a while to do so for this fun, engaging event.
