The Lullaby Project is an early-years music and culture initiative led by Eamon Sweeney, Malachy Robinson, and Lisa McGuinness, bringing together c.16 x parent-child groupings from diverse backgrounds to share lullabies across traditions. Running since 2022 with Family Resource Centres and community partners, the 2026 edition is a six-week autumn programme combining artistic excellence, intercultural exchange, and mentoring for two local musicians.

Sessions (45 minutes) centre on live, acoustic, voice-led music-making, with gentle participation, repetition, and pacing suited to early-years attention. Lullabies are shared in English, Irish, and languages within the group, with lyrics, translations, and phonetic guides provided. Facilitators are trained in trauma-informed arts practice.

Lullabies are among the oldest musical forms across cultures, serving as artistic expression, emotional regulation, identity transmission, and intergenerational connection. The project supports Aistear's "Identity and Belonging" theme (Aim 2: group identity linked to family/community) and aligns with UNCRC Article 31. Van Leer research shows music aids child development and caregiver bonds; further research links musical patterning to infant neurological development.

The key addition for 2026 is a mentoring strand for two local musicians: open call, guided observation, co-facilitation, mentoring, and debriefs. Past mentees describe it as informative, supportive, and transformative.
