The Jam Programme is a free weekly music ensemble club, facilitated by Musician Educators, for young people to come together and learn to play songs in a safe and supported environment.
The Skerries Jam runs on Monday evenings from 5:30pm – 7:30pm at Mourne Community Centre, Skerries for 10 to 12 year olds.
Approaches & Genre:
- This programme is aimed at groups 10 –12-year-olds.
- Genres covered include pop, rock, rap, and electronic, led by interests of CYP.
- Under the guidance of skilled multi-instrumental ME’s, children and young people in groups of 20 maximum, receive ensemble tuition in instruments including guitar, drums, bass, keyboard and vocal technique.
- All instruments and equipment are provided and a jam session is 2 hours duration.
- There is no cost for those who attend.
Aims of the programme:
- To facilitate the performance of original works and covers.
- To adapt and nurture the diverse musical tastes and experiences of a given group of CYP.
- Work towards performance opportunities such as the Subsounds Youth Music Festival and other performances.
- This programme aims to help young people develop their peer-to-peer communication skills, and self-confidence.
