Delivered by Louth County Council Library Service, with support from Research Ireland and the Creative Ireland Programme, the Louth Science Festival (LSF) is an annual celebration that brings science to people of all ages across County Louth. Since its launch in 2018, the festival has become a valued part of the county’s cultural calendar, using libraries as trusted, welcoming spaces where communities can explore science, creativity and learning as part of everyday life. Research has shown that participation in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths) activities in Louth is lower than in many other counties. Louth Science Festival responds to this by harnessing the reach and accessibility of the county library network to deliver inclusive, engaging events that make science feel relevant and approachable, particularly for families, young people and adults who may not typically engage with STEAM-focused activity. Taking place from 7–21 November 2026, the festival theme, “Water: from Molecule to Ocean,” explores water as a vital element connecting human health, local environments and global ecosystems. Through interactive science fairs, career days, public talks, workshops and demonstrations hosted across libraries and community venues, audiences will discover how science helps us understand water, respond to climate change, protect biodiversity and safeguard wellbeing. By embedding science engagement within local library services, LSF 2026 encourages curiosity,
