Notes that Heal

Notes that Heal is a live music programme that brings creative engagement, connection and joy to older people living in residential healthcare settings across Cork City. Delivered by Music in Community in partnership with Cork City Council, Age Friendly City Cork, Healthy Ireland Cork City and HSE South West, the project will provide meaningful cultural experiences for residents with limited access to live performance.

The programme will deliver regular visits to St Finbarr's Hospital, Farranlea Road Community Nursing Unit and Heather House Community Nursing Unit, with professional musicians providing a combination of bedside performances, small group sessions and intimate communal concerts. By returning regularly to the same settings, musicians can build trusted relationships with residents and staff, creating a familiar and supportive environment where music becomes part of everyday life.

Designed around the needs and preferences of participants, sessions will encourage residents to request favourite songs, share memories and actively engage with the music. This person-centred approach recognises the power of music to stimulate connection, spark conversation and support emotional wellbeing.

At its heart, Notes that Heal uses creativity to enhance quality of life, reduce social isolation and foster a sense of belonging. Through shared musical experiences, older people can connect with one another, celebrate personal memories and participate regardless of age, health or mobility
