The main aim for the festival is to change perceptions of what being a scientist entails; and how scientists serve,  innovate in, and enhance society; as  well as to encourage underrepresented groups to engage with the festival and with STEM activities.  This is achieved by featuring, and also supporting workshops lead by, key role models who embody the diversity of real-world scientists.  Importantly, all of the festival activities are provided free of charge, thanks to the generous sponsorship and participation of local companies, educational bodies, and state agencies (including Science Foundation Ireland)
