A Memory of Water

Visual Artist Orlagh Meegan Gallagher will work with residents of Castleross Nursing Home in Carrickmacross on this multi-sensory project using visual, auditory, oral and tactile stimulus to trigger reminiscences and create art in a totally immersive way and includes…

  • Visual: Looking at images of the sea, rivers and lakes, family photos and images of Orlagh’s and other artists’ work on the same theme. Orlagh will also go to the places the residents mention and take videos to send into the residents to look at, as they are confined to the home for now.
  • Auditory: Listening to the sounds of the sea and rivers etc. while responding in paint, encouraging personal expression of feelings and memories. Playing with an ocean drum and river sticks to create the sounds of the sea and rivers.
  • Tactile: Handling shells, pebbles and sand. Experimenting with art materials.
  • Oral: Conversations about holidays and expressing how they feel about the sea, rivers, lakes etc. Reciting poems about the sea or singing a song.
Orlagh aims to share her artistic process with the residents so that they experience through the creative activities the same sense of tranquility and calm she experiences by visiting the coast and painting seascapes, to help create a multi-sensory experience for them that can transport them to those memories of seaside, lakeside and riverside holidays and days out.

More information on the project will be updated soon here
