A Word In Your Shell-Like
Supported under Open Call Strand 3: Individual Creative Bursary – New Work, Martin Heron will undertake a new body of work and evolve the process for making his shell-like sculptural artworks.
Martin will develop the practice allowing the works to grow into something new and unique, with potential to make new paper and cardboard maquettes with possibilities of making castings from these in different materials. Martin will consider how preprinted packaging materials could affect the form, function and visual language of the artwork bringing text/writing elements to the process.
The project title ‘A Word In Your Shell-Like’ (slang for a quiet word in your ear), offers the opportunity to add words, quotes, sayings, wisdoms to the exterior surface or be placed inside making for a surprise find. It would also be interesting find and include expressions, narratives unique to Roscommon. This could bring a new conversation to the work, questioning its function and what message if any it may be imparting.
The process will be recorded/photographed, pieces produced and project outcomes. culminating in exhibition upon completion of the project for Culture Night 2025. Martin will also offer workshops related to the project this Culture Night and a youth focused version of a workshop for Cruinniú na nÓg
