Founded in 2014, Alternative Kilkenny Arts is a voluntary run arts festival that showcases the hard work and talent of artists and community groups in Kilkenny City and County.

AKA takes place every year in August for a period of 10 days and has over 60 exhibitions and events happening throughout Kilkenny. AKA is run exclusively by a committee of volunteers from the arts and community development sector in Kilkenny. 

The AKA festival offers a platform to established and emerging artists from Kilkenny City and County. In recent years and throughout the impact of COVID19, the AKA committee provides continual guidance to artists in sharing and communication their work, to attract further engagement with Art in Kilkenny and to support their work for exhibition in August.
