An Chomhairle Chraiceáilte

What would happen if we banned ciorcal comhrá, ranganna Gaeilge and bi-lingual signage?

Sounds a bit counter-intuitive? Ok, let me explain.

For too long, many people's default approach to strengthening language usage seems to revolve around more ranganna, more ciorcal comhrá and more bi-lingual signage.

While these all play a key role in our communities, I wonder are they limiting?

What would happen if we took these off the table as options? What would happen if we mentored and supported passionate Irish speakers to be bolder when coming up with new ideas?

This is exactly what we are going to find out with "An Chomhairle Craiceáilte" our first experiment.

The idea is simple. We have put out an open call for energetic Irish speaking employees across the Council. We are going to bring them on a five month creativity & leadership development programme (trí Ghaeilge).

Over the course of the programme each staff member will be supported to develop a new idea or innovation which will improve our service impacts in relation to opportunities to speak Irish.

The only rule is that ciorcal comhrá, ranganna, and more bi-lingual signage are off the table!
