'An Evil Germ'

‘An Evil Germ‘ is an animated short film collaborative project, that explores how children in our community have reacted to lockdown and the lifting of restrictions as they return to school under the shadow of the Covid-19 Global Pandemic.

Originally inspired by the radio documentary ‘Big Stories from Little Worlds’, which was created and produced by Mary Claire White and broadcast on LMFM on 12th August 2020, ‘An Evil Germ’ will be produced and directed also by Mary Claire White and illustrated and animated by artist Linda McConville. The children in our community will be asked through their parents, listeners of LMFM to contribute their thoughts and feelings about the current changing landscape of their lives as restrictions lift and are re-introduced, to give a rounded picture of how the Covid-19 global pandemic has impacted them.

These recordings will then be edited and animated. The animation will visualise the children’s responses and take us on their journey. Composer and musician Katie-Anne Bolger will compose and record the music for the film and all post production will take place at Shane Callan Post-Production. The project will be produced in association with An Táin Arts Centre. ‘An Evil Germ’ will engage with the children in our community to create a new piece of artistic expression that will very much be of its time and of its participants.
