Artist in Residence Programme 2019

The Arts Office Artist in Residence programme, co funded by The Arts Council, is extended to ensure greater access for more people across Kerry to creative writing, film making and contemporary dance. The Residency Programme welcomes artists from certain art disciplines to live and work in Kerry for a period of time. The 2019 programme sees Artists working with communities, schools, mentoring emerging artists, and offering opportunities for enthusiasts to get involved! Film-maker Mieke Vanmechelen, dancer Catherine Young and writer Annmarie Ni Churrain are this years resident artists. Residencies support the artists to create new work & further support the community by providing access to the working artist. Access is generated through project based work, workshops, projects with schools, artform mentoring to groups. Each artist works in consultation with the Arts Office/Creative Ireland Kerry to develop their residency work plan. The Artist in Residence Programme is supported by The Arts Council and the National Parks and Wildlife Service in association with the Trustees of Muckross House. Two residential cottages were made available to the programme in 2019 so that a deeper collaboration between Kerry County Council, The Arts Council, the National Parks & Wildlife Service, and the Trustees of Muckross House could take place. The additional support through Creative Ireland has allowed for an extension of the work programme and an expansion of its impact across Kerry.
