Artists in Focus with Waterford Gallery of Art: Una Sealy
A short documentary film with Una Sealy (RHA) at her home and studio in Howth, County Dublin. Sealy discusses her work as a portrait artist and what it means to capture the essence of a person on canvas. Sealy was the recipient of the phase 2 Office of Public Works Waterford Portrait Commission Award for her artwork featuring young Waterford artist, Caoilfhinn Hanton. The work featured in the annual RHA Summer Exhibition 2022.
The creation of the film also supports the young and emerging Waterford artist and film maker, Rhys Wallace. Wallace captures conversations between Sealy and Hanton ruminating on portraiture, the role of the sitter, and the projection of the artist within the final work.
This Una Sealy film is part of the Recent Works: Donations, Acquisitions, Commissions exhibition in the Waterford Gallery of Art, which runs 1st July – 3rd September, 2022. It will also feature in the following Waterford Gallery of Art exhibition, the Portraits: People & Place exhibition (8th September 2022 – 18th March 2023).
