Ballymahon Songbirds is a group of women mainly 55+ many of whom attend Ballymahon Family Resource Centre to access various supports and services. The wider benefits of singing in improving mental health and wellbeing is well recognised in many medical studies. 

This choir focuses less on the technical aspects of the voice and more on building enjoyment, boosting confidence, improving mood and creating a strong sense of community connection.

Continuing on from a very successful programme in 2024 the group who meet weekly will perform twice at Bealtaine in Ballymahon Library, a national festival which celebrates creativity in older people. Its also planned to once again have a Christmas concert. The group are again directed by local choir director Angel Reynolds and this project goes from strength to strength with a growing number of participants.
