The Arts & Creative Ireland Kerry office at Kerry County Council in partnership Kerry Writers’ Museum, Listowel, invited submissions for a writer’s residency from a writer aged 50 and over to take place from 1st to 24th May 2019, during the Bealtaine Festival 2019. The residency sought writers seeking an opportunity to research and develop their practices and to engage in dialogue with the local community. It was a non-accommodation residency. The writer received and a fee for their work with the public and shared their work via an event at the Writers’ Museum on Thursday May 23rd. Applicants were offered the choice to take note of the theme of Bealtaine and apply it to their submission if desired.
From 2018 through to 2020, in response to ongoing, international, globally transformative events, Bealtaine has adopted the theme of hospitality, hosting, welcome and generosity, as a broad and multi-layered festival theme.
