Borris Lace by Post focuses on the traditional Craft of Borris Lace, deeply rooted in the South of our County, of the place and people of Borris and Rathanna in the foothills of the Backstairs Mountain. This isolated rural community are invited to participate in the project by signing up to receive a monthly Borris Lace Pack over six months. Members of the Borris/Rathanna Active Retirement Group and the local Borris Lodge Nursing Home will be participating.

The beautifully designed and produced packs will re-introduce participants to the Craft of Lace making, the history and importance of preserving this important craft tradition. This needs of the participants in terms of eyesight/dexterity will be taken into account when designing the packs.

The Borris Lacemakers Group will be supporting the project artists by working together to share the history of the craft and the skills involved. The project artists will act as conduits, staying connected to those people who are engaging and offering support in their creative projects. Participants will be invited to send back their creations, stories of their own family’s lace, reminiscences in Stamped Addressed Envelopes.
