Brian O'Doherty Exhibition
We are delighted to present an exhibition of work by renowned Ballaghaderreen born artist Brian O’Doherty as our opening exhibition launching our new visual art space.
Born in Ballaghaderreen in 1928 he studied medicine at UCD, Cambridge, and Harvard before moving to New York where he devoted himself to the visual arts. In the 1960s, he was arts critic for the New York Times but today his own works are on display in New York’s Museum of Modern Art and Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Pompidou in Paris, the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) and the Hugh Lane in Dublin.
To mark this significant exhibition we will be launching a publication of new writing on Brian O’Doherty’s work including texts by our Visual Art Writers in Residence Sue Rainsford & Joanne Laws.
The Neon Museum, a dedicated Brian O’Doherty has also been established where writer in residence Joanne Laws will lead discussions on some of O’Doherty’s seminal texts.
