"Buildings of Ireland" Pevsner Guide Heritage Buildings Book 2021-2023

The Buildings of Ireland is a series of authoritative guides to Irish architecture organised on a regional basis, known as Pevsner Guides. The series is designed to provide an authoritative and comprehensive guide to Ireland’s architectural heritage. Every type of building, architectural style and historical period is included, as are all towns, villages, monuments and manmade landscapes. Site visits are backed up by extensive desk based research and the resulting information is presented in an alphabetically arranged gazetteer.

Responsibility for commissioning authors and overseeing the quality of the volumes lies with the Buildings of Ireland Charitable Trust.

The Mellon Foundation and Yale University Press will edit and publish the volume from their own resources (approximately half of the total cost of the project).

This project represents year 1 of a 3 year research, field work and data gathering phase for a volume devoted to the counties of Leitrim, Roscommon and Sligo, with a working title of North Connacht.

This project ties in with Priority 3: Creative Culture Infrastructure - Key Action 5 of the Roscommon Culture & Creativity Strategy 2018-2022 ‘Continue to support and protect our rich and diverse built and natural heritage in partnership with the community’.
