Burren Ethnobotany: Plants, People and Places

Burren Botanist Sinead Keane wants to revive our connection with our wild plants and highlight the importance of our Irish ethnobotanical heritage.

Burren Ethnobotany is a creative exploration through the format of video/photography, interviews and online research of the cultural ethnobotanical heritage and traditions associated with the wild medicinal plants of the Burren, Co Clare.

Our Irish ancestors relied on our native flora to support their daily lives. Much of our knowledge of the application of our wild plants has been lost over time.

The project comprises of two components:

Firstly a short (2.5min) video on the healing plants of the Burren called – The Burren: Healing Herbs’

The second element is a document summarizing  research which conducted by Sinead on the traditional herbs used for healing in Co Clare, as recorded by the Schools Project of the 1930’s available through www.duchas.ie

Both elements will be accessible on The Burren Botanist website.

Please note that the details of events listed above are provided by the relevant Local Authorities.
