Carlow Creatives
Over the course of 2 months, young writers of Carlow will embark on a specially designed project to develop their stories, poems and essays with professional literary artists, Dr Martin Keaveney, Edmund Buckley MA & Aoife Holohan MA at The Creative Kids Creche. A group of writers aged 6-10, up to 30 in total, will attend a series of 12 tutorials & workshops at The Creative Kids Creche with expert tutors.
Each session will focus on various aspects of writing craft, such as starting to write, finding time and space, self-editing, sharing and receiving feedback and publishing creative writing. The sessions will include a generous and supportive creative workshop. There will be an opportunity for new writers to practice poetry and short fiction, work in genres of realism, scifi, crime, relationship and horror.
Writers will also be introduced to the medium of playwriting and screenwriting. All participants will receive weekly typed feedback on their work, plus a series of support videos and high-level craft readings.
At the conclusion, the children will be invited to present their work to peers, family and a wider circle of Carlow residents at a wonderful community event in The Creative Kids Creche on 6th June 2026. Communities will be provided with a very special reading experience as all material will be developed, written and edited within this project.
