The Cathaoirleach’s Award was introduced as part of Roscommon County Council’s Culture & Creativity Plan – funded by Creative Ireland – a number of years ago.

This year we are developing a project for children and young people, linking with school communities -a Local Heroes Rock Art Project. Children and young people will be invited to create art pieces responding to the theme ‘Local Heroes’ using small rocks and create a trail around their school community at primary and secondary level.

An artist will present an online demonstration via Roscommon Arts Centre website with ideas for materials to use and methods to paint/ draw on the rocks including the use of recycled/environmental friendly materials etc and responding to the theme Local Heroes. The connection with the schools would be important for this activity – responding to the visual arts curriculum.
