To celebrate the centenary of the poet W.B. Yeats winning the Nobel Prize for Literature, the Yeats Thoor Ballylee Society has organized a number of events at Thoor Ballyee, his 14th century home near Gort, Co. Galway.
This June will see the launch of an international poetry competition, followed later in the summer by concerts, talks, heritage events, and poetry readings. In October, a specially commissioned play will be produced about the Nobel Prize. These Centenary Events will showcase the world of Yeats, the beauty of his poetry, his role in establishing the Abbey Theatre, and his influence on Ireland’s Cultural Revolution at the turn of the century.
