Ceoil an Straid Bhaile

Rinceoil Fingal Rush, is a well established (25yers) voluntary group which promotes and teaches traditional Irish music, songs and dance to the local community in Rush. Throughout the Covid19 Pandemic our group has kept in touch and play regularly on WhatsApp video.

As there is a very rich tradition of musical families, composers and teachers in Rush and the nearby villages, we decided to create an archive book of songs and tunes written by Rush people or about Rush by other composers. This book would have an EP attached with live recordings of the local musicians playing these tunes, a lot of which will go out of memory over time. The archive book will extend back to the piper Chris Langan born in Rush in 1915, who after playing and teaching in Rush for many years went on to set up an international pipe band in Toronto. It will move on then to the present day where the late Lenny Martin and relatives of Chris keep the home tunes playing. Delighting the young pupils, tourists to Rush, musical scholars and keep the heartbeat of music going in the pub sessions, Patrick’s Day parade, local schools and local festivals.

The book which will include professional photographs of the local area and written notes of the tunes and songs played, archive photographs and some images from local artists, of all ages will be a legacy piece for future generations to enjoy and add to over time.
