Chamber Music in Valentia

A unique opportunity to present a high-quality musical engagement with young people in South Kerry.

Irish musicians Mary Dullea (‘Chamber Music on Valentia’ Artistic Director and pianist) and concert violinist, Darragh Morgan, will present an innovative performance programme featuring music by Irish composers and with Kerry connections. Ernest Moeran (d. 1950) lived on Valentia Island for a time. Irish contemporary composer Deirdre McKay was the featured composer in this year's summer festival. They will celebrate the 350th anniversary of Turlough Carolan, the famous 17th century blind Irish harper composer and will also feature Matthew Dubourg, Irish violinist/composer and orchestra leader of the premiere of Handel’s Messiah in Dublin in 1742.

To round off the programme they will perform ‘Winter’ from Antonio Vivaldi’s Four Seasons which musically describes those elements of nature, air and water, so visceral in the landscape of South Kerry. They will introduce all the music with interesting facts and historical context and have an open question and answer with the participating young people as part of the presentation.
