Community outdoor performance space - Dungarvan, Co. Waterford

The importance of outdoor performance space became particularly important during the worldwide Covid-19  pandemic. Space for arts and for cultural and creative expression in a safe environment, particularly for youth and for older people is essential.

In this developmental project, Creative Waterford and Waterford City and County Council Roads Department have collaborated in creating an outdoors performance space set in a new urban park development, Dungarvan Fairlane park. The park will be set close to the town centre in a disused site. The space is adjacent to a wide range of places designed with community activation in mind – green space incorporating a skate park, cycling routes for young children, biking park, walking lanes, seating, suitable planting etc.

The performance area will have tiered seating in a horseshoe shape facing into a specific “stage” area with two level entrances to allow for disability access.

Creative Waterford will work with Waterford City and County Arts office to ensure the space is programmed with a wide variety of creative community and youth arts and is fully available to arts organisations and festivals to use as part of their activity.
