Competence in Digital Map Making

Westmeath Archaeological & Historical Society will host a seminar designed to enable researchers to create digital maps and add detail to digital photographs which will build capacity for research and publication in the county and broader region.

The seminar will be facilitated by the very experienced cartographer and university lecturer Paul Gosling who has wide experience in delivering this type of seminar. The organisers have facilitated part one of this seminar very successfully in 2022 and facilitate heritage events throughout the county.

This workshop is entirely interactive with participants discovering how to access cartographic resources online and appropriately enhance by adding details such as contours, shading, signage, captions, text, boundaries and editing cross-relating and reviewing the above to create their own digital maps. A resource will be produced encapsulating the skill set developed during the seminar and will be available for all on Westmeath Archaeological and Historical Society’s website. The facilitators inputs will be followed up by one-to-one tuition.

Professionally presented digital maps are the cornerstones of understanding the cultural, social and economic landscape of any region and the opportunity to acquire these skills is fortuitous.

Keep an eye on Westmeath Archaeological & Historical Society’s website for registration details.

Please note that the details of events listed above are provided by the relevant Local Authorities.
