Creating Green Shoots

The Creating Green Shoots craft workshops will be anchored within and inspired by Theatre Royal’s new urban biodiversity garden. Developed as part of Theatre Royal’s transformational ‘green journey’ under the Green Arts Initiative in Ireland and in alignment with partner Waterford Council’s 2040 ambitions to become Ireland’s first decarbonised city by 2040, this dedicated education and engagement project will encourage urban outdoor creativity amongst local primary school children and retired communities.

Waterford artist Anouschka Joyce will collaborate with Waterford Council horticulturalist Eoin Dullea, to design ‘green crafts’ workshops that will generate awareness about urban biodiversity and artists’ use of sustainable materials, and encourage participants to seek out alternative, eco-friendly materials to express their creativity. Participants will be immersed in the urban biodiversity experience and using a variety of materials and techniques, encouraged to see, feel, and smell an abundance of natural textures, colours, patterns and olfactory experiences, making the workshops an ideal activity for those with sensory issues. By exploring themes of regeneration and regrowth in nature, these workshops will promote wellbeing and mindfulness.

The green crafts workshops will be offered to participants in selected schools and all updates and images will be shared on the Theatre Royal Waterford Facebook page.
