Creating Ireland's First Carbon Neutral City While Preparing for Climate Change

This initiative builds on the success of Our Waterford 2040 which resulted in huge community engagement around what small environmental changes we could all make to contribute to ensuring Waterford City becomes more carbon neutral.

This time we are aiming to be even more ambitious and showing the public how communities and individuals can work together to prepare for a Changing Climate while creating Ireland’s first Carbon Neutral City!

As part of this project, Waterford Libraries in partnership with The Climate Action Team , Europe Direct Waterford and The Arts Office proposes to:

  • Commission images from artist Kathi Burke showing what our City could look like in the future as we work to prepare for a Changing Climate
  • These works will be based on concrete examples from the Waterford Council’s Climate Action Plan
  • Each will have text beside explaining how we as a Council will lead our communities towards a Carbon neutral future.
  • These works will be displayed for at least one year on the external windows of Central Library and will be lit up at night – there is big footfall on this route.
  • The Library, Arts Office and Climate Action Team will run a Community outreach programme exploring these topics through creative mediums to be determined by what emerges through the project.

Once community outreach workshops have been designed, they will be advertised on Library social media with booking information.
