This hands-on activity will teach children and young people how to build a stone arch using stone-effect foam blocks and the provided wall template.
The archway will include two columns and visitors will be asked to think creatively to arrange the wedges of varying sizes in a semi-circle and hold them together with a keystone. There will be additional interpretation giving all visitors an overview of this old art and craft including the tools, templates and techniques used by the skilled masons of Medieval Ireland.
Once the new creative Ireland STEAM project Creative Art of Arch-Building activity has been introduced, young people will have the opportunity to explore and learn how to be creative with ancient engineering techniques.
