Creative Rathangan Meitheal Programme of Work 2021


Spies, Rebels and Informers 1, 2 and 3. Three short seminars exploring the 'intelligence war' with a particular focus on the role of Rathangan's Ned Broy. This seminar will address four key questions - (1) Why did earlier rebellions fail - was it simply a matter of intelligence? (2) How did Collins build an effective counter­ intelligence response? (3) Who was gathering the intelligence? (4) Why was the battle for Public Opinion so important?

The Other Revolution - marking the establishment of Northern Ireland in 1921, and tracing its origins from resistance to Home Rule to the opening of a separate Parliament in Belfast

After Tracks - a seminar marking European Year of Rail Heritage focusing on BNM's narrow gauge railway system and possible future uses.

From Ballynowlart to New York-the Bracknagh Turf Co-Operative Revisited a new cut of a largely forgotten film from 1921 complete with storyboards and music plus an accompanying lecture.

The Science Politics and Economics of Climate Change - organised with the Geography Department Maynooth University

The Peat Beneath Our Feet- a guided walk of local peatlands timetabled to coincide with the Peatlands Gathering
